That is why I prefer to use the Magnify button.ĭo you really mean A=Auto or did you mean Av? It sounds like you meant Tv since you can instantly switch the minimum shutter speed.

However, Quick Set requires you take your eye away from the viewfinder. That way you can do it all with your right hand. Why not just use your left hand to hit the magnify button? Since magnification only matters when you are looking at the LCD and your left thumb is available, this seems like an excellent option that would be consistent across all of the Canon SLR's.Īnother option is to keep the SET button for 100% magnification and use the Quick Set button for exposure compensation.
Canon quick menu problem iso#
The poor overall implementation of EC when it comes to Auto ISO and Canon is why we're so casual when we mention it - because Canon has a lot to learn in this regard, and their current implementations are far from ideal (but could be fixed in a heartbeat if Canon were to accept that M with Auto ISO is increasingly an intelligent way to shoot.).ĭeputy Editor, Technical Editor | Digital Photography Reviewĭ (work) | rishi.photography (personal) Thankfully, with the 7D2 and 5D4, you can assign the thumb button/lever to EC, which allows you to have a consistent EC experience even when switching from A/S Priority to Manual.īut, really, the fact that the *dedicated* EC button on the 1D X/II ceases to function in M mode with Auto ISO is, frankly, inexcusable. But it's an important feature/ability we call out in most reviews - as M with Auto ISO is how I shoot 50% of the time (the other 50% is A mode, where I can instantly switch the minimum shutter speed threshold for Auto ISO). Therefore, it's not usable to me on most Canon cameras. Haha I only mentioned it 'casually' because I'd been asking Canon for it for ages, and they only implemented it in an extremely poor manner: via the SET button, which is always, for me, reserved for 100% magnification of focus point (which can't be assigned to, like, any other button controllable by your right hand - thanks Canon). It was already possible on the 7DII (.and the 1DX and 1DXII, if I am not mistaken.), but for me, coming from the 1DMKIV, it is an all new, important feature.Ĭuriously enough, I got the pointer regarding this feature from Rishi Sanyal who wrote quite casually about it very early on, without realising the importance this particular piece of information had for some of us who had been asking for it for ages.

Yes, I also have it set that way and it is great to able to do so. Sorry if this is old news to many of you.
Canon quick menu problem manual#
This is such a good solution, I'm surprised people here and reviews complained about the lack of auto iso in manual mode unless they were complaining about earlier models. I used to almost always shoot in Av but now I will probably shoot in M and auto Iso more often so that I have quick access to all parameters. I love auto iso now that minimums and maximums can be set. You can also use the quick menu for the same purpose but not while you are looking through the viewfinder. This is much easier than going through the menu to get to exposure compensation. Then to adjust exposure you just hold set and then use the Main Dial to adjust exposure. In custom settings, set the SET button to exposure compensation. I just found a way to adjust exposure compensation when in Manual Mode and Auto Iso.
